Happy New Year! / සුහ අලුත් අවුරුද්දක් වේවා! Suba aluth auruddhak wewaa!

Zwischen dem 12.04.-15.04.2024 wird hier auf der Insel das singhalesische und tamilische Neujahr gefeiert. Da mein zukünftiger Ehemann ebenfalls mit diesen Traditionen aufgewachsen ist, habe ich einen besseren Einblick in die jährlichen Festigkeiten. Leider konnte ich in den 3 Jahren, welche ich bereits hier lebe, noch an keinem Insel-Neujahr teilnehmen. Aber ich habe fest vor das im kommenden Jahr zu ändern. Da mein Vater ebenfalls hier geboren ist, kennt er auch alle Traditionen welche das Land bereit hält. So haben wir am Morgen des 13.04.2024 ein leckeres Kiribat (Milchreis) Frühstück mit Katta Sambol (Scharfes Chutney) und Bananen genossen.

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year is celebrated here on the island between 12 April and 15 April 2024. As my future husband also grew up with these traditions, I have a better insight into the annual festivities. Unfortunately, in the 3 years that I have lived here, I have not yet been able to take part in any island New Year celebrations. But I am determined to change that next year. As my father was also born here, he knows all the traditions that the country has to offer. So on the morning of 13 April 2024, we enjoyed a delicious kiribat (rice pudding) breakfast with katta sambol (spicy chutney) and bananas.
